Birth Date: June 10th, 1992
Country of Origin: Maine, United States
Jiu Jitsu Lineage: Fight Sports

Better known as Maggie Grindatti, the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu athlete is currently a black belt. She holds IBJJF word titles and is an ADCC West Coast Trials silver medalist.

When she was an undergraduate at the University of Pacific, she played field hockey. After graduation, she moved to Hawaii in 2014 where she lived with her uncle, Jay Thompson. Thompson was highly active in the MMA world and introduced her to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

Grindatti joined the K team Martial Arts Academy. Within one month, the talented athlete competed in her first professional tournament where she won two gold medals. She then trained under several well renowned coaches including Marcus Wilson, Robert Drysdale and Egan Inoue.

By 2016, she met and trained under Robert “Cyborg” Abreu, whom she is now married to. They grew close, and soon after, she joined his academy ‘Fight Sports’ in Miami Florida. By this time, she had earned her blue belt. Under Abreu’s training, she ultimately got her black belt and became a world-renowned grappler, which came as no surprise since Cyborg himself is one of the top 5 grapplers in the world.

In 2019, she finally earned the black belt. Currently, she is one of the top ranked medium heavyweights in her class and holds gold medals in both gi and no-gi competitions.

Grindatti’s favorite position is known to be pressure passing. Her advice to the youth is “Without struggle, there is no progress” thus, encouraging them to work consistently towards their goal.
